Youth 30 Hour Famine
Christ Lutheran Church will be hosting a 30 Hour Famine event for all Youth Groups in the South Central Conference.  This event is geared towards helping the Youth understand hunger and realize that hunger exists here in our own city.  They will learn what we can do to help and hopefully leave with a better appreciation for the blessings that we have. There will be several volunteer projects like possibly working in a soup kitchen that will take the Youth out into the community.  Dates and times will be announced when they have been finalized. For further details contact Kelly Burden.

Spring/Easter Work Day
Even though it is hard to believe, spring is right around the corner and so we are looking at our campus with a critical eye. With that in mind the Grounds and Building Committees are joining forces to schedule the Spring/Easter Work Day on Saturday, March 27. Work needs to be done inside the church to prepare it for Holy Week and Easter. Work also needs to be done outside to prepare the gardens for spring.
The interior focus will be preparing the sanctuary for Holy Week and Easter with Palm Sunday the day after work day. The other interior focus will be the Bride’s Room to install mirrors, hang artwork, etc.
Outside, the gardens and landscaping around the church and Grace Manor need to be trimmed back to allow new growth. It will be a bit early to plant new plants but keep that in mind as you look around the campus.
The committees seek your input to know what needs to be repaired, painted, etc. If you see something that needs attention please contact Deb Carter (Building Committee Chair) or Sean Patrick (Property Committee Chair). The building committee is looking at repairing or replacing the narthex door on the northwest corner of the building. We are also seeking bids to replace the guttering and associated projects at Grace Manor.

Easter Parade
The Evangelism Committee decided on "The Walking Garden of God" as the theme for this year's Easter Parade.  We will be wearing Easter colored clothes and creating our own flower petal collars.  If you are interested in walking in the Easter Parade please join us in creating our flower petal collars Sunday March 14th after service in the library.

Visit the new Youth Room!
The room across from the library has undergone a recent transformation. The youth cleaned out and scrubbed down the room, then filled it with comfy furniture. It is now a great place for youth events and fellowship. Special thanks to Sean and Steven who donated a chair, Debbie and Diane who donated a rug, John Featherstone who installed the blackboard and all the youth who helped out!

Thanks from the youth
Thanks to all the youth and adults to helped run the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Thanks also to all the people that came to enjoy the pancakes and fellowship. We raised $136 for the youth fund!

Lenten Supper Thanks!
Thank you to all who have made the Lenten Soup Suppers a success this year. The soups, breads and desserts have been delicious! What a joy to be a part of a community of faith that has so many great cooks!

THE BOOKWORM’S CORNER
LENTEN READING
What are you giving up for Lent? Or have you decided yet? If not, why not give up some of the most valuable thing you have -- your time. Take a few minutes each day and do some lenten reading. Your Church Library has some excellent books  which can be used to grow your faith. Here are a few suggestions:

THE CHRISTIAN YEAR: Days and Seasons of the Church by Edward T. Horn III. This book is great for anyone who has always wanted to know more about the Church seasons, holidays and colors.
The lenten season often focuses on the suffering of Jesus. Human suffering is another theme worth pursuing. I highly recommend:

THE PROBLEM OF PAIN by C.S. Lewis, or Philip Yancey’s WHERE IS GOD WHEN IT HURTS?
Books on Christian disciplines, such as prayer, are also recommended. Here are a few we have on the shelves of our Church Library: PRAYER: Basic Training by Warren W. Wierbe examines Jesus’ famous prayer found in John’s Gospel, chapter 17. Marjorie Suchochi, the great process theologian, has written a book on prayer types called GOD’S PRESENCE: Theological Reflections on Prayer. A very creatively written book called PRAY! Don’t settle for a Two-Bit Prayer Life could be very stimulating for you to read.
Daily devotional reading might fit you better than a longer book. I can recommend two daily devotional collections by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman. I have used her books myself over the years. In our library we have SPRINGS IN THE VALLEY and STREAMS IN THE DESERT by Mrs. Cowman. Her poetry is often like what one would expect to find in Ideals magazines.
Last, but not least, John Bunyan’s PILGRIM’S PROGRESS will help the reader to reflect on their own Christian journey. We have two copies available.
Whatever spiritual discipline you undertake during this lenten season, I pray that your faith will grow as you journey through these forty days of Lent.

From the building committee:
Jeff Rawlings and his architectural firm are working on our design.  The next step will be to meet with the building committee, I will then report to Council.  We will provide the information to our congregation and answer questions and address any concerns.  Once the design is complete we will contact a general contractor for estimates and time lines.

Evangelism Committee
In February we welcomed many visitors to our church to whom we delivered a welcome bag containing a loaf of bread and information about Third Lutheran and our neighborhood, UCHM, and Fat Friday, etc.
We also sent 30 letters to new residents in 40206 inviting them to our church.
The committee held a meeting after church on February 21st. We discussed the Easter Parade, Fat Friday and a Community Cleanup Day.
